I remember excitement as a kid when Valentine’s Day rolled around because schoolteachers decorated the room and made a big occasion of it. We each brought our packet of Valentines to exchange and loved getting colorful cards back. Many included candy hearts with printed messages we had just learned to read. Sadly, some boy or girl sometimes got missed so there was a scramble to include that one, too.
At elementary age, our parents usually bought us inexpensive packs of cards to give. As we got older, we sometimes made them.
As people celebrate Valentine’s these days, I’m wondering whether it should be aimed only at special loved ones? Or to a broader list of recipients? I liked this site offering “23 Easy Valentine’s Day Crafts That Require No Special Skills Whatsoever” Each project is adorable and will cheer people in every age group and relationship. Here’s the link:
What do you say? Should Valentine’s Day only be for couples struck by Cupid’s arrow who observe it with romantic cards, chocolates, flowers, and candlelight dinners? Or can it be a broader holiday bringing appreciation and affection to many folks around us? I personally like the broad application reaching children, neighbors, delivery drivers, and members of our exercise classes. (Chocolate is always welcome there.) I like the idea of generously spreading love to touch as many people with happiness as we can.
Now it’s your turn. Please describe your best Valentine’s Day.
What’s your vote for how to celebrate this year? Have a great day, whichever way you choose!
