To read or not to read, that is the question!
Book reviews help authors and readers. When authors write books, customer reviews get the word out about our creations. They tell the public if others enjoy the books and recommend them, or not. Then readers decide if they should order or dash out to buy titles right away or pay to download and read immediately.
I seldom start reading a book I don’t finish but often listen to friends or check reviews before committing my reading time. It’s like visiting grocery stores that give food samples in tiny cups to taste and see if you wish to buy and take home more of that product.
Customer reviews don’t take long to write. Posted on Amazon or other sites, they bring needed attention to our book babies. Reaching numbers like 50 reviews meets some mysterious algorithm that gets our books noticed more. It also makes them show up on “Also Bought” lists. Reviews don’t need to be long or fancy. Just briefly state what the book’s about, whether it’s a good read with memorable characters and action—or not.
If you’re not sure how to write one, check that topic online and find many examples. Also read reviews others have written for books you’ve read to see what they’ve done. Be fair. Be honest. Comment on good writing. After the hard work authors do to reach publication, writing a review is a kindness that takes minimum effort and helps books receive the attention they deserve.
My first historical novel, Books Afloat, released in January of this year and Christmas Tree Wars last month. Thank you in advance for reading our books and posting reviews. I know how much I appreciate each one written and posted on Amazon and the other major sites. Every author I know feels the same.
