I’m grateful for how A Traveling Grandma’s Guide to Israel has been received. If you haven’t read it, you’ll enjoy even if you don’t plan to go visit.
My amazing American friend Hava and husband have lived in Israel 50 years and joined me on travels often. Here’s a 2011 photo of her, second from right, when she took us to the UN Peacekeeping Force overlook in northeastern Israel near the Syrian border.
She read my book this week and says it’s teaching her new things.
“It’s a great pleasure to read your Israeli adventures over the years. You give so much information about all ways to experience Israel, either as a volunteer, a tourist, or as an educator—a real insider view of the country” –Hava Bausch.
That’s what I hoped to provide, so I’m delighted.
Two weeks ago, our Amish friend J. and his three brothers-in-law built the two excellent farm sheds we needed despite 96 F weather. They worked cheerfully, hard, and got more done than my son expected. Here are several distant photos.
Below is a photo of the family size cart that carries our nearest neighbor’s children to school during good weather. Now that school has resumed, it’s great to see them driving past morning and evening, happily waving. Here’s what I wrote after the first day.
Here’s what I wrote after the first day:
“Happiness is having school start again when four dear neighboring Amish children thunder by in their open cart behind their galloping horse. The sound is different than approaching cars or trucks. I hear pounding hooves and the ground shakes a bit until suddenly I see the children, grinning and waving while looking to see if I’m watching to return their wave. I am and I do. In the midst of a world gripped by unrest, this simple interchange morning and afternoon is strangely satisfying. I wait for them. I schedule some household tasks to let me be near the window at that time. I see two more carts going back and forth with school children, but I know these four neighboring youngsters the best. All is well. As Robert Browning wrote, “God’s in His heaven. All’s right with the world!”
What about you? What’s been the most right in your world lately? Hopefully, lots! Have a wonderful rest of the month!
