Due to falling down my farm house stairs June 8th, from which I’m still recovering, this has been an unusual summer. No travel. Less garden work. More writing and reading. Since I injured my driving foot, I’m only now regaining that privilege. I also have more appreciation for the ability to walk and empathy for those who cannot.
I was supposed to drive to Ontario, Canada in late July to visit friends. Instead, other friends who used to live there will fly to Minneapolis where I’ll pick them up and we’ll ride together. I’m thankful for that option. There wasn’t a solution for a trip I was supposed to take to Scotland and Ireland this summer. Hopefully that can be rescheduled.

I’m using a stronger lens to discover more treasures close to home. A visiting homeschooling mom’s seven-year-old son looked up and spotted a large chicken of the woods growing in the oak tree that I see every day. It’s now been harvested and eaten. What else is nearby that I haven’t explored yet? I’m spending more time looking.

Author friends and I worked hard to release Stars and Stripes for Freedom on August 1st. Since then, I’ve had great editing and proofreading help getting my Amish book, Mercy’s Rose, ready for October 1st release. That means I’ve now started writing the sequel to Wilderness Wife, and at exactly the crucial time on Facebook (of all places) I found some information I truly needed. I love situations like that. Even this postcard from our Canadian North days triggers great memories and story lines.

I hope your summer is happy and safe. Groucho Marx (and/or his writers) was a very funny man. He said, “Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.”
An unknown author spoke this truth, “Sorry this update is so long. If I’d had more time, it would have been shorter.”
My next update should include travel, better walking, and end-of-summer blessings. Until then, I’m wishing you lots of the same, Delores

So happy you are on the mend and will get to do some traveling again. It’s hard to keep you down. Congratulations on the release of Stars and Stripes for Freedom.
