When at a good writers’ conf. in Hot Springs, Arkansas and you see you’re a short distance to close friends in Denton, TX, you find a low-priced ticket on a plane smaller than you realized and buckle up—but it’s all great. I like adventures and new experiences so just acquired another. My return flight to Hot Springs is Thurs. morning—I’m hoping for smooth-as-glass skies again with great views and no turbulence.
It means the world to have quality time with dear friends, no matter how one gets there. I think an ad somewhere says, “Getting there is half the fun.” So true. I’m just glad to survive these jaunts.
I’m also remembering crossing the Irish Sea seven years ago from Ballycastle, Ireland to Campeltown, Scotland in an eight-passenger RIB inflatable boat. That trip had been canceled the day before because of a gale. Waves were still four feet high on my day, but I took two doses of seasick medicication and climbed on board. When I asked how many boats they lost a year, the captain answered, “One.” That trip was both the scariest and most fun trip I’ve ever made. You know the kind—I don’t want to repeat it but am glad I did it once. I’m determined to live life to the fullest.
What about you? What memories do you have of experiences you don’t want to repeat but are glad you did?
Have an awesome two weeks until next time! Delores
